SILVER STATE OPEN MARTIAL ARTS TOURNAMENT RULES
* Conduct – Competitors must display
good sportsmanship at all times. Competitors must demonstrate good
attitudes and respect toward the officials and other competitors. No
abusive or foul language will be permitted. Failure to follow the
rules will result in expulsion from the event with no refunds.
* Dress Standards – Competitors must
be attired in a clean, approved uniform of their style, school, or
system. Jewelry may not be worn during competitions. Officials will
be provided with souvenir shirts to be worn while officiating.

* Health – All competitors must be
medically safe to participate and must not be on medications, which
would affect their performance.
* Forms (Kata) – Competitors will be
judged on a point decimal system based on stances, balance,
techniques, coordination, focus and presentation.
* Sparring Equipment – Head
gear, hand gear, foot gear, and mouth guards are MANDATORY FOR ALL
COMPETITORS!!! Foam dipped safety gear or seamless gear (such as
Century “C-Gear”) only. Fingers and toes must be covered … open
finger and/or open toed gear will not be accepted. . Males must wear
groin cups. Women are encouraged to wear safety bras and groin
protectors. Chest and shin guards are optional.
* Points - One (1) point will
be awarded for each controlled hand or leg techniques.
* Match Length & Points - All
matches will be three (3) minutes in length. A competitor reaching
five (5) points within the allotted time period, the first
competitor to lead by three (3) points, or the competitor with the
most points when time expires will be declared the winner.
* Black Belt Grand Champion –
Competitors for Black Belt Grand Champion in Sparring will be
initially paired according to closest height/weight comparisons. All
following matches will be in a “round robin” until a winner is
declared. Matches will be awarded to the accumulative point leader
after a single three-minute round.
* Ties – In the event of a tie at the
end of the allotted time, competitors will receive a sixty-second
break. The match will continue for an additional two minutes. The
match will be awarded to the point leader at the end of the
authorized overtime round.
* Legal Contact – “Kiss-Contact” to
the head will be permitted for Brown Belt ranks and above. Any head
contact of sufficient force to cause opponents head to move may
result in a call of “Excessive Contact”, and a point being deducted
from the competitor causing the contact OR if no points have yet
been earned by the offender, a point being added to the competitor
being struck. A competitor cannot win a match on a call of
“Excessive Contact” in his/her favor. A second infraction will
result in immediate disqualification. Light to moderate contact is
allowed to the body. The center judge may award points or a
disqualification for excessive contact and/or un-sportsman like
conduct.
* Illegal Contact Areas:
Kicks/Strikes to the legs, spine, throat, back and/or top of the
head, and mask of the face will not be permitted in any division or
rank.
* Illegal Techniques: Head butts,
Elbow Strikes, Knee Strikes, Throws, Grappling, and Sweeps to
supporting leg are prohibited (front leg sweeps will be permitted,
with proper technique and control). |
